EXPERIENCE & VALUE LAYERS OF THE METAVERSE, ITS CHALLENGES AND HOW TO SOLVE THEM
Metaverse is all over the news; there are high expectations, diversity of information and apprehensions. This session will deconstruct the hype and explain the two broad layers of the Metaverse. The value layer and the experience layer. The value layer is where the transactions take place and the experience layer is where we see, hear and feel. The visual element of the Metaverse is much more powerful than the traditional internet-based viewing experience, since the Metaverse brings in 3D immersive experience, which is more aligned to the real world. A decade ago, such technology was costly and difficult to experience since the internet bandwidth and compute power was not available at the scale that it was available now. The advent of 5G and low-cost GPU powered devices means that Metaverse is more accessible at scale. But there are challenges: The VR headsets are still heavy and expensive. Creating 3D content is manual and slow. Replicating high resolution spaces in 3D and hosting them on Metaverse spaces is still not possible. Researchers around the world are working on solutions for these. We will analyse at of some of these innovative solutions.
