#DOT:DOT THE FIRST EVER MARKETPLACE FOR THE ANONYMOUS P2P TRADE OF UNUSED GIGABYTES OF MOBILE ACCESS

Talk Abstract

The mobile phone industry hides a paradox. While many of us have lots of unused gigabytes of mobile access that are wasted at the end of the month, a fraction of the population is struggling with internet access and cannot cope with monthly subscriptions. Anonymous P2P sharing of unused gigabytes of mobile access is an easy and straightforward solution to this paradox. #dot:dot is a solution made of a pocket electronic device, called a «#dot », generating a long range (100m) WiFi hotspot that one can pair with their smartphone, and an app enabling anonymous and secured transactions: « #doters » can thus allocate a number of gigabytes of mobile access that they can sell to anyone in their vicinity, while « #dotees » just need a smartphone - even without any SIM card in it - to have easy and piecewise access to just the internet they need, one megabyte at a time.
